Advanced Control.

With 4 8-blade propellers spinning up to a theoretical maximum 19500RPM, rear ducted fan thrusters, various control fins, stable weight distribution, and a complex control system, the LR-01 is not only a powerful and advanced drone, but a stable one too. In fact, stability is so critical to this drone that it even includes a dedicated ARM Cortex-A8 SBC just for controlling critical functions. Also, in case of loss of control, the LR-01 will try to map out a way to where it took off with its advanced sensor groups, so you don’t have to worry about causing a crash.

Robust Power Delivery.

What do you get when you put dual 6 inch centrifugal gas turbine engines in a drone? Yes, that’s right! You get an absolutely insane amount of electrical power! To be somewhat discrete, at least 12kW per generator, or 24kW total before accounting for electric, mechanical and electro-mechanical inefficiencies. The turbine is still being perfected, so figures here are estimates following real-world empirical data extrapolated to the design.

Smart Flying.

With so much power and complexity, it would be foolish to not include the sensor array that is incorporated in the LR-01. It includes a surround RADAR+Ultrasonic system that can detect objects reliably up to ~200m, many external antennas for short-range communication, multiple inertial measurement units, full internal system and environmental telemetry including but not limited to sensors for voltages, current, temperatures, humidity, air quality, fire presence, motion, and RPM.

This system flowchart outlines the core LR-01 functions, systems, and subsystems. It shows signal, power, and coolant routes in an abstract depiction of the drone.

Basic Control System Information

Core Unit - IP-0000-CO-LR01

The core control unit has authority over the most critical systems in the LR-01, such as rotor control, IMUs, coolant pumps and monitoring, shared communications, and backup power systems.

Camera Unit - IP-0000-CM-LR01

The camera control and communication unit connects to up to 4 cameras on the LR-01. It then outputs their video feeds to the internal Ethernet network on the drone. Because Ethernet is used, multiple camera units can be connected to the same network, allowing for over 700 cameras on a subnet!

Supervisor Unit - IP-0001-SR-LR01

The supervisor control unit controls all auxiliary and peripheral systems directly or indirectly. Functions include tasks such as interfacing with other minor control units, communicating with charge and discharge controllers, controlling lights, powering fans, controlling LCD displays, taking camera feeds, and powering various motors and servos in the drone.

Rotor Sensor - IP-0000-RS-LR01

While small and unnoticed, the rotor sensor boards (RSB) are very crucial to the LR-01 telemetry. They provide rotor air temperature, humidity and RPM and also give vibration data from that sector.

Radar Unit - IP-0000-RD-LR01

The radar unit allows the LR-01 to gather the most critical environmental data: orientation and positioning. It has an effective range up to ~200m, and can even go ultra short range with its ultrasonic sensors. In addition, each IP-0000-RD-LR01 assembly contains a CC1200 wireless transceiver for short range communications.

Baseboard - IP-0000-BS-LR01

The baseboard is the most critical PCB in the LR-01. It acts as the glue for all circuits in the drone, connecting almost every single control unit in one spot. In addition to this, the baseboard also performs some direct functions of its own, rather than using proxies.
